Landscaping contractors are going green in all parts of the country by using designs that preserve the natural landscapes and resources. In a rising trend to help preserve natural resources, landscaping contractors are using more plants that are native to the area. These native plants have adapted to the weather and soil conditions over many centuries. They thrive in the climate without an excessive amount fertilizing and watering. Both of which endanger the environment. One depletes a natural resource and the other by introduces chemicals into the soil and surrounding wet areas.

Fertilizer runoff from farms and lawns has substantially contributed to the overgrowth of algae and plants in lakes and rivers. The chemicals seep down into the aquifers and will eventually contaminant the water table.

Green Landscaping
Green landscaping requires the knowledge and experience of a professional landscaper to ensure a beautiful and functional yard while reducing its impact on the environment. The use of natural materials is the cornerstone of the green landscaping contractor plan. Rock and stone quarried in the area along with native grasses and plants gives the appearance of nature but with the added luxury of being low maintenance.

Ground covers such as myrtle vinca minor, periwinkle and English Ivy are well suited to a majority of the climate zones. There are in fact hundreds of native ground covers available. Many of them also produce flowers during the growing season that add to the color of your landscape.

In the dry or arid sections of the country, more natural materials can be used in place of grass that needs to be constantly watered. Cactus, and wild grasses along with rock gardens and wood mulch reduce the need for watering and help to keep the ground cool and to retain moisture.

Landscaping Contractors
Landscaping is one thing I leave to the pros to do. Although I know what I like as far as shrubs, trees, flowers and bushes, I don’t know their characteristics and needs. How much water and sunlight does a particular plant need? Can it withstand the winter exposure on the north side of my house? Does it attract insects or birds? And, if yes, what kind of insects and birds. I leave the landscape design and planning to the landscaping contractors. They spend years learning their craft and working their magic. I know when to leave it to the experts. I recommend you do the same and find yourself a professional landscaper that knows your area.
